Several years ago I got the itch to build a koi pond.

There really wasn't a whole lot of practical information out there about building koi ponds.

Oh yeah, there were some books written by a bunch of British koi fanatics. But spending thousands of dollars on expensive koi filter systems or ozone generators was a bit out of my reach. Quite a bit actually.

Besides I was looking for a hobby not a money pit. I just couldn't find much practical down to earth information on building koi ponds

So I decided to learn how to build a koi fish pond on my own. I figured if I could keep a tractor running with baling wire and duct tape I could build a koi pond. The end result, I was able to build a koi pond of about 9,000 gallons for under $3,000 dollars and I could have built it for less if I knew then what I know now.

So I Just Want To Pass On A Few Things About Koi Pond Building  That I Learned Along The Way

Of course if you want to spend thousands of dollars on expensive equipment then by all means be my guest but there really is no need to. I have found that koi pond building can be as simple or complicated as you want to make it.

But there are certain requirements that must be met to have healthy koi. "Experts" seem to have a way of complicating even simple things. I think it makes them feel smart and important. So a lot of what I will share is just simple common sense. As much as possible I have tried to simplify things and write in everyday English rather than "forumese".
